Reserving Time
for Your Class §
If your class is not conducting research, for example, using computers
for word processing or a specialized
computer program, please book the §
Work with us while you are planning the lesson, a brand new one or an
established activity, before you book time in the LRC. See: Librarian as Teacher, Collaboration,
Facilitator …You Are Not Alone §
Reserve time at least two days ahead. The librarians plan their work
day based on class reservations, anticipated numbers of drop in students,
on-going student projects and other tasks for which we are responsible. We
will also have time to create or update a specialized STUDENT
PATHFINDER for your class. §
Please come by in person. §
Check the reservation book for availability and complete a class visit
sheet. §
A librarian will put your
reservation on the book. §
We will talk to you about the assignment, resources needed, due dates,
product (paper, poster, speech, video, etc.), instruction by librarian, works
cited, reserve items. |

Seating The LRC is arranged so that
drop-in students can choose the seating area that best suits their needs –
tables for group work, tables for individual work, study carrels which
eliminate distractions, Quiet Study with study carrels where no talking is
allowed. Areas §
Front - 25 computers and COACH - 21 computers; can accommodate classes. §
FICTION : Individual seating for 15 – 20 study carrels and chairs.. §
Quiet Study: 16 individual study carrels §
General/Reference
Collection – space for a small class – 15+-. §
Faculty/Staff
area for small group meetings, reading – sofas and small conference table. Substitute
Teachers For the most valuable
research experience for your students, plan class research on a day you will
be here, not a sub. Students have many
questions about the assignment and content area that only you can answer. |

Cancellations
and No Shows As a courtesy to other
teachers who need to schedule the LRC, students and LRC personnel, please let
us know if you will not use your reservation as soon as possible. We base the number of drop-in students we
admit on how many classes are scheduled.
This also frees the schedule for other teachers. |

Sending Students
to the LRC from Your Class Call first to verify that
there is space available. Limit the number to five. Students must have a pass and I.D. Field Trips In the event you have
students who are not participating in a field trip and you have assigned them
a project that should be completed using LRC resources, make arrangements
with a librarian first, either Geralyn or Linda. Please observe the following: §
If more than 5
students: o
Reserve time in
the LRC just as you would for a class visit. o
Request a sub
for your class. The librarians and not
substitute teachers. o
Have an
assignment for the students. §
If 5 or fewer
students, o
Make
arrangements with Geralyn or Linda, o
Have an
assignment for the students. o
Instruct
students to scan their IDs for attendance. Food, Drink
& Fundraising §
Except for
special programs, food and drink will be enjoyed outside of the LRC. To
eliminate distractions, students are instructed to leave fundraising items at
the circulation desk. §
Please alert us
to any special circumstances: o
Students with
no scheduled lunch who eat in your class o
Any student who
must eat or drink at any time for health reasons, for example diabetes. Created by G. Haan, Lead Librarian, Updated |
