Summary: The Earth, My Butt, and Other BIG Round Things, is a book about
a 15 year old girl who is in her sophomore year of high school named, Virginia
Shreves. She deals with a lot of issues at her high school, Brewster High
School, including French class, a fling with a boy (Froggy Welsh), and especially
her weight. However, her weight is not only considered an issue at school,
but also at home. Virginia’s mother, Mrs. Shreves is constantly focusing
on Virginia’s appearance of weight by commenting on her diet, the way
she dresses and her activities. Mrs. Shreves even goes to the extent of making
an appointment with a doctor to talk about her weight. Mrs. Shreves was a
heavy girl when she was younger and she doesn’t want Virginia to be
that way when she’s at this age. Actually, she does not like to confront
the fact that she thinks that her daughter is heavy. In fact, she denies a
lot of things through the book and Virginia realizes that about the mother
she always thought was perfect in every way. Recommendation: Complete this Sentence: If you are in high school, … are confused, are uncomfortable with your looks, have a heard time fitting in with a certain group and are constantly being compared to others (especially your siblings), then you’ll enjoy this book!
Summary: Virginia Shreves is the main character and she has a little bigger than average size body, not many friends, and never would think that she could get a boyfriend. Her mom is always at work or exercising. Virginia’s dad is always going golfing or jet setting. She also has an older brother and sister. Bryon is in college and very smart. He is athletic and known by many. Virginia looks up to Bryon very much. Anais is thin, intelligent and in the Peace Corps, so she lives far away from home. She looked up to Byron very much until she soon found out that he was in trouble for date raping a girl named Annie and everything after that went down hill for Virginia. Virginia tried going on a diet or eating health so that she could possibly look more like she has an average size body, but because she was so upset about Bryon she gave up her healthy eating habits. Not only did she give up her healthy eating habits but for the first time a boy actually wanted to get to know her, she liked him to, but she acted very meanly to him. She ignored and rejected him causing him to move on to a different girl. It got around Thanksgiving time when she got the best opportunity to be on her own, without all the problems going on in her family. She could also be with her best friend that moved away, which she missed very much. Shannon, her best friend invited her to go to Seattle with her family. It was difficult to get her parents to agree about letting her be in Seattle without them, but once she found a way to make her mom and dad let her go she came up with a lot of new ideas of how she was going to handle life from now on. Recommendation: If you are a girl and you don’t really like to read you will enjoy this book. F Summary: Bobby is just an average teenager, only with one major issue. He has to deal and cope with having a child. At first he and his girlfriend have to decide whether or not they want to keep it; let alone raise it. When you are in a situation like this there are many problems and conflicts you must overcome to get by. For example: looking after your kid while going to high school. The book is set up in a then and now style, so it can be confusing at times, but once you catch on your good to go. Recommendation: If you like books that are easy to read and have a good plot then you’ll defiantly enjoy this book.
Summary: This book is amazing and I loved every page of it. The Narrator, Bobby, is 16 years old and the story has two settings: “Now” and “Then”. It begins in the now and he has just gotten his daughter, Feather, and is adjusting to parent hood. The “then” part starts with him on his 16th birthday hanging out with his friends and finding out his girl friend, Nia, is pregnant. The book explains Bobby and Nia’s love and their hardship with school, parents and jobs. It shows you the negative side of baby life the way television can’t, but while negative, very inspiring. Throughout
the book, you are taken from “now” and “then”, and
eventually the ending of the “then” part is the place where the
“now” began at page one. First Part Last is a truly emotional
book and the writing format is amazing. I wouldn’t call my self a reader
and I truly enjoyed this book. If you are or have ever been a teenager then
you’ll enjoy this stunningly surprising book.
T Summary: Macy’s life became a nightmare after the sudden death of her father. Her boyfriend, Jason, is a total perfectionist, and plans to go away to "Brain Camp" for the summer, leaving Macy with his library job. Although the library, and people in it are dreadful, Macy decides to keep to her promise for Jason. When a catering event is held at one of her mother’s get-together’s, Macy meets a new group of people who will become her friends for life. She is offered a job with the company, and turns it down... at first. While her
mother is away on a business trip, Macy sees the catering van & follows
it to its destination and takes the job offered days earlier. While Macy’s
sister fixes up the beach house, and her mother works like crazy, Macy learns
to follow her heart. When her mother notices a serious change in her behavior
and friend choice, she bans her from ever seeing them again. Macy still continues
to talk to her new group of friends, including Wes. They begin playing a game
called ‘Truth’, and secrets are revealed. When disaster strikes,
her mother calls in her old friends from the catering company & everything
goes perfectly... In the end, you learn the truth about forever... however,
you will need to read the book to find out the excellent ending.
Summary: The Truth About Forever is about a teenage girl named Macy who lives
an almost perfect life. She has the perfect boyfriend and makes the perfect
grades, but there comes in a time in her life when she just starts getting
sick of it all. Around this time, Macy meets a guy named Wes. It was total
love at first sight. Not only is Wes a major heartthrob, but also a talented
artist who teaches Macy about the more important things in life.
Summary: This book is about a girl who struggles with anorexia and bulimia for 3 years of her High School career. Throughout the book it shows how her boyfriend helps her through this process of going in and out of the hospital no matter how much pain it causes him. Her last year of school she finally faces the fact that if her life goes on this way she is going to die. Her boyfriend is so in love with her but he can’t deal with the pain of all that she is going through. That summer he attempts to commit suicide because of manic-depression and LSD. She writes these poems about her every thought and puts her heart down on paper, you can feel the pain she is going through. Recommendation: I would recommend this to any teen-age girl that likes to read journal-type
books. I think girls would like this better because it has to do with many
of the struggles we have to deal with.
