This website was created by the Maine South English Department to aid students who struggle with basic grammatical concepts. This site contains PowerPoint presentations for each of the eight parts of speech. Each presentation includes a tutorial, downloadable tip sheets and worksheets, as well as links to online quizzes and activities.

Turnitin.com is a valuable resource that the English Department subscribes to in order to safeguard student work and prevent plagiarism in student writing at Maine South. Poetry 180

Former Poet Laureate of the United States Billy Collins created the Poetry 180 program to make it easy for students to hear or read a poem on each of the 180 days of the school year. The poems on this site, hosted by the Library of Congress, have been selected with high school students in mind.Click on the image above to go to Poetry 180 and make poetry an important part of your daily life.

Online Writing Lab

The Online Writing Lab or OWL is a website hosted by Purdue University. The OWL at Purdue offers online handouts covering writing, research, grammar, and MLA and APA style. Click on the image above to visit OWL.

The Guide to Grammar and Writing is sponsored by the Capital Community College Foundation. This site contains a wealth of information and assistance in terms of grammar and writing. The site includes guides, PowerPoints, and interactive quizzes to help you work on and improving your grammar and writing skills from the word and sentence level, to the paragraph level, to the paper level.
